Vision for 2016

As a business owner, you know that you need to have vision. You need to know, where you want to be in one year, where you want to be in 3 years, and where you want be in 5 years. You need to know this as a business owner and as a human being, as a person who needs to provide for yourself and for a family.Your vision has to account for that.

Where do you want to be on January 1st, 2017?

Maybe it’s something like “I want to have X number of clients, I want to bring in $X in net profit, I want to be paying myself this $X per month, $X per year.” Maybe it’s more like “I want to only be working 4 days a week, and still be making a lot of money.”

Let’s use this as an example, if you want to have 25 clients at the end of 2016, and you have 10 clients right now. That seems like a big hurdle if you only have 10 clients, and want to add 15 new ones by the end of the year.

This is NOT a huge hurdle; all you have to do is use simple backwards planning. That tells you that you need to add 15 clients over the next year. If you break that up over 12 months of period, that means that if you pick up one client per month for 12 months, that leaves you 3 short out of your goal.

So how do you get one additional client for 3 of those 12 months? That’s an easy problem to solve. That is how you take vision and start planning. That’s how you set a goal and develop a plan to support that.

Knowing where you want to go and having a plan are the first two steps. From there, you need to sit down and look at your weekly schedule. Make sure that everything you’re doing is supporting your vision. Whether it’s working in the business (writing a training program, answering emails, or a coaching call) or whether it may be working on your business (developing a marketing strategy, developing a e-book, writing a blog), you need to be working towards or in support of the vision.

This is the time of year to block off some time, look at or update your vision and get to planning. It will pay off big time!!!
